it was God’s intent for Israel’s kings to foreshadow the reign of the Lord Jesus Christ. He will combine in His person the offices of prophet, priest, and king and will rule as God’s anointed (1 Corinthians 15:24, 28; Psalms 2:7–9, 11–12; 110:1–3, 6–7; Revelation 19:16).
